Frequently asked questions

Is my input sent to a server?

No. Every conversion runs inside this browser, and your input and results are neither saved nor uploaded. They disappear when you reload.

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 only rewrites data as text and anyone can reverse it. Do not use it to protect passwords or personal data.

What is the difference between URL component and full address?

Component mode also converts separators such as ? & = / #, so it suits a single query value. Full address mode keeps the address structure and converts only characters such as Korean text and spaces, but it also turns % into %25, so encoding an already encoded address encodes it twice.

Does URL decoding turn + into a space?

By default + is left as it is. Turn on “Treat + as a space” only when + means a space, as in HTML form data.

Why are some items not changed when decoding HTML entities?

This tool handles common named entities such as amp, lt, gt, quot, apos, nbsp, copy and hellip, plus numeric entities. Named entities that are not on the list and numeric entities out of range are left as they are to preserve your text, and the status message lists them.

How are the line and column of an error counted?

Lines and columns both start at 1. Columns count characters, and the character right after a line break is column 1 of the new line.
